MINSK, Oct 16 - PrimePress. A full transition to electric cars in Belarus would ensure electricity consumption at the level of 12 billion kWh.
These figures were mentioned in a presentation at E-Mobility 2020 Forum in Minsk on Oct 16, the press service of the Energy Ministry said in a release.
“… electric cars are gradually becoming more accessible and their characteristics are improving. Previously they used to be unusual and extraordinary things, today they are everyday transport for many. The world’s leading countries are striving for a full transition to electric transport,” Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich said at the forum.
He noted that in 2019 the volume of electricity consumption by charging stations was 3.8 million kWh, by the end of 2020 it is planned to increase this figure to 12 million kWh.
It is planned that by the end of 2020 the number of charging stations in Belarus will increase to 400, and by the end of 2021 it will reach 600.
“Our main task is to ensure the comfort of drivers of electric cars with a convenient location for filling stations. We are installing fast-charging stations near shopping malls and entertainment centres, at supermarkets and shops,” said Andrey Kotik, Belorusneft Deputy Director General.
A package of stimulating measures will be implemented in Belarus to promote the use of electric vehicles and develop a network of charging stations, says the ordinance “On promoting the use of electric cars” signed by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on March 12.
The document says that electric vehicles imported to Belarus for personal use, as well as electric charging stations (EPS) will be cleared by the customs with a zero-rate value added tax (VAT).
The Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) has zeroed import duties on some types of vehicles equipped with electric motors (EEU FEACN 8703 80 000 2) for a period to December 31, 2021 inclusive. The zero duty applies to imports of electric vehicles both by individuals and entities.
Industry experts believe that mass import of electric vehicles into Belarus may start by mid-2021, when the country will have official dealers. According to their estimates, the number of electric vehicles in Belarus may increase to 100,000 by 2025 after VAT and customs duties are abolished. End
