EU Permanent Representatives Committee approves putting Lukashenko on expanded sanctions list

The EU Permanent Representatives Committee EC approved on November 4, 2020 the expansion of sanctions against Belarusian officials, including Alexander Lukashenko, says a source in a delegation to the EU Council. </p> <p> </p> <p> “The ambassadors [permanent representatives of 27 EU member states] approved a new black list, which includes Lukashenko,” TASS news agency quotes an anonymous European diplomat as saying. According to the source, this decision will be approved by the EU Council and published in the Official Journal of the European Union in the coming days, possibly on November 6. After this, it will come into force. </p> <p> </p> <p> The sanctions provide for freezing assets and a ban on entry to the EU. Alongside Lukashenko, the additional list will most likely include 14 Belarusian officials. </p> <p> </p> <p> The European Union has repeatedly stated that it does not recognize the result of the presidential elections in Belarus held on August 9, 2020.
