MINSK, Dec 4 - PrimePress. Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Mikhail Myasnikovich says that the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) plans to eliminate 12 "sensitive" exceptions and restrictions in the common market in the next two years, but this list is open and can be extended.
On December 4, a meeting of the EEU Intergovernmental Council was held in an online format.
“Of course, other issues relating to exceptions and limitations... (were discussed by the Prime Ministers – editor’s note). We keep talking about barriers, barriers are only a part of the obstacles not regulated by our legislation. Exceptions are what is already defined in the relevant documents, but restrictions - and these restrictions are in force today - are those positions that are not regulated by the law of our union,” Prime reports citing Myasnikovich as saying.
“And in this regard, the list, which consists of 12 exceptions and restrictions that we plan to settle in the next two years, are the most sensitive positions,” he added.
The EEC chief noted that all these exemptions and restrictions affect the interests of more than one or two countries. At the same time, he drew attention to the fact that there are also states and their producers in the union who are interested in keeping these restrictions and exemptions for now.
Myasnikovich added that the EEC will report on this issue in the second quarter of 2021.
As previously reported by the EEC in mid-October, the EEU countries, together with the Commission, began forming a road map for the removal of restrictions, which are planned to be removed in 2021-2022.
As previously reported, 9 trade barriers have been removed in the EEU since the beginning of 2020, but during this time 5 new trade barriers have been introduced. According to the Ministry of Economy of Belarus, as of August 2020, there were 67 barriers in the EEU, of which 17 have a barrier status. End
