EEU should focus on creating unified labelling system for goods - EEC
<p> MINSK, Aug 27 - PrimePress. The main task in the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) is to create a unified labelling system for goods. Vahagn Ghazaryan, Director of the Customs Tariff and Non-Tariff Regulation Department of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), stated this at the IX International Forum "Anti-counterfeiting-2021", the EEC press service reports. </p> <p> </p> <p> “The main task facing the commission and the member states at the moment is to create a unified architecture of the product labelling system and unified rules for its introduction. The decisions of the EEC Council on introduction of labelling for certain groups of goods, as well as the basic technological organizational model of the labelling system approved by the EEC Council, are aimed at creating such a mechanism, which defines the unified rules allowing to implement it step by step in the whole union,” said Kazaryan. </p> <p> </p> <p> In his words, the share of counterfeit products reaches 80% in certain sectors. Within the framework of the World Trade Organization, the TRIPS Agreement of 15 April 1994 provides the legal basis for applying measures to protect intellectual property objects and combat against counterfeit products. In the world practice, digital tagging of goods is recognized as one of the effective tools for combating counterfeiting and ensuring traceability of goods, Ghazaryan said. </p> <p> </p> <p> The EEC Council has already adopted decisions on labelling footwear, cameras, perfume, light industry goods, tyres, dairy products and fur products. In the near future, they will consider labelling packaged drinking water as well as bicycles and bicycle frames. End </p>
