EEU plans to finally abolish roaming by 2025 - EEC

Roaming will be finally cancelled in the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) by 2025, said Arman Shakkaliev, member of the board (Minister) on competition and antitrust regulation of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), during the online briefing on March 26. </p> <p> </p> <p> Shakkaliyev said that reducing the cost of communication services is very important for the development of the economies of the EEU countries, and an action plan has now been prepared to create conditions for the transition to so-called “home roaming”, when interstate tariffs will be close to domestic ones. </p> <p> </p> <p> “But cellular operators are concerned about the possibility of fraud in the provision of such services,” Shakkaliyev said. At the same time, the EEC has studied the experience of the European Union and North American countries in abolishing roaming, as well as the actions taken in this direction by Belarus and Russia. </p> <p> </p> <p> Shakkaliyev noted that by 2025 it is planned to meet all technical and regulatory conditions for operators to be ready to provide services in the home format. </p> <p> </p> <p> “As early as April, 2021, the question will be submitted to the EEC board, and decisions on roaming cancellation should be made,” the EEC representative said. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, roaming between Belarus and the Russian Federation may be abolished from April 2021.
