EEU mutual trade in goods up 31% in Jan-Aug to $45 billion

The volume of mutual trade in goods in the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU: Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia) increased by 31% year on year in January-August 2021 to $45 billion, said official representative of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Iya Malkina. </p> <p> </p> <p> The share of mutual trade in the total trade turnover of the EEC was 14.6%, Malkina said. </p> <p> </p> <p> In her words, the growth of mutual trade was recorded in all the EEU states. The greatest growth is recorded in Kazakhstan (38%) and Russia (almost 34%). Supplies to the EEU market from Armenia increased by nearly 31%, from Kyrgyzstan - by 30%, from Belarus - nearly 22.5%. </p> <p> </p> <p> “As for Belarusian goods, the biggest growth in supplies from that country to the domestic market of the Union was seen in metals and metal products - by 1.4 times, wood and pulp and paper products - 28%, textiles, textile products and footwear - nearly 27%,” said Malkina. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) predicts a 20% year-on-year increase in mutual trade of the EAEU countries in 2021 up to $66 billion. </p> <p> </p> <p> The volume of mutual trade in goods between the EEU countries decreased by 10.7% yoy in 2020 to $55.1bn.
