EEU countries so far can’t agree on gas transportation tariffs - EEC

Member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) have not yet reached an agreement on a comprehensive system of tariffs on gas transportation when creating a common gas market. This information was presented by Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Temirbek Asanbekov at a press-conference on 30 September. </p> <p> </p> <p> In his words, the signing of the EEU common gas market agreement is scheduled for 2022, but so far there are disagreements between the countries on some issues, in particular regarding gas transportation tariffs. </p> <p> </p> <p> “Transportation tariffs are a sensitive issue for some countries. Discussions are going on, there are some country-specific approaches. I think these disagreements will be resolved by the time the agreement is signed. So far we are following the path of intergovernmental agreements, and then we will try to remove these restrictions,” he said. </p> <p> </p> <p> In his words, on 27 September 2021 a high-level meeting of the EEC was held with the participation of members of the governments to discuss gas pricing, transit and transportation from third countries. </p> <p> </p> <p> “We bring principle positions for discussion to the level of the heads of states. After the heads of state make a decision, we will be able to definitively say that an international agreement will be signed,” Asanbekov said. </p> <p> </p> <p> In December 2020, the heads of EEU countries approved an action plan on harmonization of the EEU countries’ legislation in the oil sector, and also decided to move to the second stage of formation of the common gas market - creation of its infrastructure, technological and legal basis. </p> <p> </p> <p> The agreement may be signed as early as 2022, although the original plan was to launch a single gas market in 2025. </p> <p> </p> <p> The EEU is an international economic integration association established on the basis of the Customs Union and the Common Economic Space, which has been operating since 1 January 2015. The EEU ensures freedom of movement of goods, as well as services, capital and labour, and pursues coordinated, harmonised or unified policies in the sectors of the economy. End </p>
