EEC sends draft agreement on common gas market to EEU countries for approval

The Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) has sent for approval to member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) a draft agreement on the EEU common gas market, the EEC press service said in a statement. </p> <p> </p> <p> The report points out that the draft agreement on the EEU common gas market was developed by the Russian Federation. However, the EEC notes that the draft needs to be supplemented by common rules of access to the gas transportation systems, which have not yet been submitted by Russia. </p> <p> </p> <p> Meanwhile, the EEC Energy Department has already prepared a detailed timetable for reconciling the document. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, Emil Kaikiyev, Member of the Board (Minister) on Energy and Infrastructure of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) announced at the online press conference in Nur-Sultan (Kazakhstan) on February 4 that the signing of the agreement on the common gas market of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) was due in 2022. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, in May 2020, the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council approved the Eurasian economic integration strategy for the period to 2025. Armenia and Belarus rejected the gas tariff calculation formula. Russian President Vladimir Putin said in this regard that a common gas tariff formula requires greater integration. </p> <p> </p> <p> The Eurasian Economic Union has been functioning since January 1, 2015. It unites Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. Belarus presided EEU bodies in 2020. It was previously planned that the common oil and gas markets in the EEU will start operating on January 1, 2025. In April 2021 Belarus’ Ambassador to Russia Vladimir Semashko said that the single gas market of Belarus and Russia could start operating on 1 January 2022. End </p>
