EEC proposes to phase out roaming in EEU by 2025

The Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) proposes to phase out roaming in the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) by 2025, Deputy Chair of the EEC Board Iya Malkina said during an online briefing held on October 21, 2020. </p> <p> </p> <p> The EEC Council has instructed the newly-formed ad hoc group to draft a plan to switch to fair tariffs for international roaming in the EEU, taking into account requests of all member states, based on world practices in terms of reducing the cost of communication services in roaming. </p> <p> </p> <p> The EEC Board will look into this matter on October 27, and then the EEC Council and the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council will address this point. </p> <p> </p> <p> The Commission proposes to reduce the tariffs to 90% of the fee in the home region from July 1, 2021; 70% from January 1, 2022; 40% from January 1, 2023; 20% from January 1, 2024; 0% from January 1, 2025, said Malkina. </p> <p> </p> <p> The phased reduction is planned so that telecom operators do not face an immediate significant decrease in revenues. Tariff cuts are expected to stimulate consumption growth that would compensate for potential losses. End </p>
