EEC invites India to step up negotiations on preferential trade agreement
<p> MINSK, Sep 17 - PrimePress. The Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) invited India to intensify negotiations with a focus on signing a preferential trade agreement, said the EEC press service. </p> <p> </p> <p> “The decision to start negotiations was taken by the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council back in December 2016. We are determined to move to direct negotiations and hold them within a reasonable time frame and hope that India shares our desire to start discussing the contents of the future agreement as soon as possible,” said EEC Board Chairman Mikhail Myasnikovich at a meeting with Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. </p> <p> </p> <p> The Indian side confirmed their readiness to continue joint work. </p> <p> </p> <p> The trade turnover between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and India totalled $12.4 billion in 2020, down 11.3%.
