MINSK, Nov 1 - PrimePress. The Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) has approved a plan to introduce fair tariffs in the states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU). The document was prepared as part of the implementation of the initiative voiced by Kazakhstan's Prime Minister Askar Mamin at the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in October 2019, the EEC press service reported.
In addition to the state authorities, the Union’s mobile operators took an active part in developing the plan. The Competition and Antimonopoly Regulation Unit of the EEC reviewed the legislation of the EEU countries in the field of communications and studied global practices of roaming abolition, including in the framework of regional integration associations (European Union, Andean Community, NAFTA, West African Union, etc.).
The measures provided by the plan include a set of activities aimed at preventing, detecting and suppressing fraud, ensuring direct interaction between telecommunications operators when passing international roaming traffic, working out the possibility of organising direct joints between telecommunications operators' networks, and others.
The plan provides for the development of rules for bona fide usage of fair tariffs, which will include, inter alia, defining the billing step and the maximum volume (period) of communication services rendered at fair tariffs in roaming.
As previously reported, roaming in the EEU countries could be finally abolished by 2025. End
