EEC approves draft roadmap on common market of organic farm products

The Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) has approved a draft roadmap on a common market of organic farm products of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), the EEC reports.<br> <br> According to the EEC, the world organic products market is growing rapidly, being estimated at over 100 billion euros.<br> <br> The share of areas under organic crops in the Eurasian Economic Union does not exceed 1% of the total arable land so far, in many respects due to the lack of unified laws and underdeveloped interstate cooperation,” says Artak Kamalyan, member of the Board (Minister) of Industry and Agro-industrial complex of Eurasian Economic Commission.<br> <br> In order to regulate the market of organic agricultural products, an international treaty will be drafted to ensure the free circulation of this type of products in the EEU.<br> <br> The EEC will cooperate with the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) and the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FIBL). Exports to promising markets of third countries is among the priorities.<br> <br> “The organic segment of the agricultural industry meets the global trend towards healthy nutrition and sustainable agriculture. Organic production now accounts for about 1.5% of the world’s farmland, having increased by 1.1 million hectares to 72.3 million hectares in 2019.
