Debts of strategic city-forming enterprises to be restructured selectively - National Bank
<p> MINSK, Apr 15 - PrimePress. The restructuring of debts of strategic town-forming enterprises will be continued, however this will be done selectively. Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Belarus Dmitry Kalechits made a statement to this effect at a press conference on April 15. </p> <p> </p> <p> As the media reported, the Ministry of Finance of Belarus has issued foreign currency bonds worth over $600 million, which were bought by a number of Belarusian banks to repay part of the debt of BMZ Metal Company (Zhlobin, Gomel Oblast). </p> <p> </p> <p> He commented on the measures taken to deal with bad debts and using shares to repay companies’ debts to banks. </p> <p> </p> <p> “Our principal understanding of this issue is that the problem of debt overburden of industrial enterprises lies first and foremost in improving the efficiency of these enterprises, their competitiveness. Credit debt restructuring is one of the additional temporary measures that should help transform enterprises, improve their business model, increase their efficiency and maintain their financial stability," Kalechits said.
