Commission under Belarus govt gives green light to raising prices of meat and meat products by 4.9%

The Commission for the state regulation of pricing under the Council of Ministers of Belarus has approved the move to increase the prices of meat and meat products by not more than 4.9% compared to the price level of 28 February 2021, says the press service of the Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade of Belarus (MART). </p> <p> </p> <p> Producers, sellers and importers are authorized to raise the prices until 23 September 2021. The matter concerns meat and meat products, which are regarded as socially important goods. The list of socially important goods includes pork and beef, chicken, meat offal, canned meat, cooked sausage, semi-smoked and cooked smoked sausage. The prices of such goods are regulated by the state. In particular, they may not be increased by more than 0.2% per month. </p> <p> </p> <p> Raising prices above the limit is possible only by agreement with the commission on state regulation of pricing under the Council of Ministers. Only state agencies may apply to the commission for approval of such increases. </p> <p> </p> <p> According to the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), Belarus is currently exercising state regulation of prices with regard to 18 groups of socially important goods (introduced on 1 Jan 2021 for 17 product groups, then supplemented) and 11 groups of socially important goods (from 9 June 2021), including meat, milk, cheese, butter, wheat flour, rye bread, white polished rice, buckwheat groats, white sugar, baby food, fresh vegetables and apples, canned meat, margarine, barley groats, table salt and black tea.
