CIS should focus on developing common economic space - Lukashenko
<p> MINSK, May 28 - PrimePress. The governments of the CIS countries (CIS: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan) and the CIS bodies should focus on the development of the common economic space, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said at a meeting with the participants of the CIS Heads of Government Council summit on 28 May. </p> <p> </p> <p> “Let me say it straight: unless we deal with this matter in the near future, the Commonwealth of Independent States can hardly be efficient. More so, the EEU (Eurasian Economic Union: Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia) cannot be efficient either. The time has come to finally dot all the i’s and take a decision to build a true foundation for our inter-state relations. The foundation is the economy,” said Lukashenko. </p> <p> </p> <p> In his words, successful economic integration is impossible without improvement of the CIS documents and their harmonization with the regulatory framework of the Eurasian Economic Union. </p> <p> </p> <p> Founded in 1991, the CIS is an international organization that includes some of the republics of the former Soviet Union.
