China to consider Belarus’ request to increase purchases of potash fertilizers

China will consider Belarus’ request to increase purchases of potash fertilizers, the press office of the Belarusian president reported after a telephone talk between President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and President of China Xi Jinping on January 26, 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> According to the press office, foods and timber products remain the main points of bilateral trade growth. China is considering the commodities that Belarusian companies are willing to supply in 2021-2022. An expert group has been appointed to simplify trade procedures and promote exports. </p> <p> </p> <p> Belarus’ export application includes 88 items of agriculture, the machine building and chemical industries. The presidents spoke about cooperation with Chinese financial institutions, major infrastructure and investment projects they can support, and development of the Chinese-Belarusian Great Stone Industrial Park (Minsk Oblast) as part of the Belt and Road initiative. Lukashenko invited China to expand the presence of China’s leading companies and banks in Belarus, which he considers strategically important. </p> <p> </p> <p> In order to step up interregional cooperation, it was proposed to declare the Year of Regions of Belarus and China in 2021-2023. </p> <p> </p> <p> The parties are committed to continue enhancing bilateral cooperation. Lukashenko thanked the Chinese president for supporting Belarus on international venues, and joint efforts to withstand external threats. </p> <p> </p> <p> The presidents exchanged information on COVID-19 response measures. China is ready to supply Belarus with the necessary amount of its coronavirus vaccine. </p> <p> </p> <p> Lukashenko and Jinping agreed to meet face to face as soon as the pandemic situation has improved. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, in late April 2020, the Belarusian Potash Company (BPC) signed a contract with China to supply potash fertilizers in 2020 at $220 per tonne (down by $70 per tonne than under the previous contract).
