MINSK, Dec 10 - PrimePress. Belarus’ State Border Committee (SBC) has clarified the new rules for leaving the country, which will be in force from December 21, 2020.
The official statement with clarifications has been posted on the official website of the State Border Committee.
The temporary ban will enter into force at 0 a.m. on December 21 and shall apply to the cross-border traffic of foreigners and Belarusians in both directions through functioning terrestrial checkpoints on the border with Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine, as well as air border crossings. Similar measures in different implementation options were introduced in Latvia, Lithuania and Russia.
Thus, the exit of Belarusian citizens and foreigners permanently residing in Belarus through functioning land border crossing points is temporarily suspended except for certain cases. This restriction will not affect checkpoints at airports.
Restrictions on entry for foreigners through land border crossing points remain in force. In addition, foreigners over six years of age, who enter Belarus, will need medical documentation proving a negative PCR test.
Belarusians and foreigners entering Belarus via land and air checkpoints from countries with registered COVID-19 cases (listed as such by the Health Ministry) are obliged to stay in self-isolation for ten calendar days from the date of arrival in the country and cannot leave Belarus until this period expires.
“Transit is possible only upon arrival through air checkpoints and in case of documentary proof of transit through Belarus within 24 hours. Neither a medical document nor self-isolation from foreigners is required. If the transit time exceeds 24 hours, it is possible to cross the border only with a medical document.”
The SPC pointed out that the list of persons who are not subject to time restrictions has been approved. For example, diplomats, members of official delegations, international drivers, foreigners entering for work, medical care, citizens of Belarus who need to go abroad on notice of death or illness of a relative abroad, as well as for work, business trips, education and others. Among other exceptions are citizens of Russia who are in transit through Belarus to the Russian Federation, even at ground checkpoints.
In exceptional cases, individual decisions may be made to allow cross-border travel. End
