BMZ, MTZ, Mozyr Oil Refinery not to suspend operations
<p> MINSK, Aug 24 - PrimePress. Belarusian Steel Works OJSC (BMZ, management company of the Belarusian Metallurgical Company Holding, Zhlobin, Gomel Oblast), Minsk Tractor Plant OJSC (MTZ) and Mozyr Oil Refinery OJSC (Gomel Oblast) are not on strike, and are not going to stop operating, representatives of the enterprises told RIA Novosti news agency. </p> <p> </p> <p> President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko ordered to shut down the striking enterprises on Monday, and then replace the strikers. The Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Unions told RIA Novosti that the industrial giants were forming strike committees. BMZ stopped its steelmaking furnaces for several hours on August 17 and then got back to work. </p> <p> </p> <p> “The plant is operating normally, according to the schedule,” the BMZ administration said on Monday. There are no protest actions at the enterprise. </p> <p> </p> <p> A representative of the Minsk Tractor Plant also said that the enterprise continues working, and that the strike announced last week had not been legally formalized. </p> <p> </p> <p> The Mozyr Oil Refinery also reports normal operation without strikes. </p> <p> </p> <p> Massive protest actions began across Belarus on August 9, 2020 after the presidential election. The Central Election Commission officially reported that incumbent President Alexander Lukashenko polled 80.1% and would stay in office for the sixth term. The opposition insists that Svetlana Tikhanovskaya won the election. </p> <p> </p> <p> The Belarusian Steel Works was put into operation in 1984, and transformed into OJSC BMZ-Managing Company of the Belarusian Metallurgical Company Holding in 2012. The holding unites 22 companies engaged in steelmaking, rolling and pipe and hardware production. The company supplies products to the domestic and foreign markets. </p> <p> </p> <p> The Minsk Tractor Plant was founded in 1946 and transformed into an open joint stock company in January 2014 owned 100% by the state. It was transformed into MTZ Holding, which includes MTZ OJSC and nine other enterprises. Since August 2014, MTZ Holding has been manufacturing over 160 models and modifications of tractors and machinery in the power range from 20 to 356 hp. The holding exports products to 85 countries. It numbered 16,518 workers as of Jan 1, 2020 (17,891 as of Jan 1, 2019). </p> <p> </p> <p> Mozyr Oil Refinery is one of Belarus’ two oil refineries. </p> <p> It has been operating since 1975; transformed into an OJSC in 1994. The government of Belarus holds 42.757% of its shares; 42.581% belong to Slavneft owned by Rosneft and Gazprom Neft. MOR Plus LLC that represents interests of the company employees holds 12.252% (the state’s share was increased to 98.4% in 2006), other shareholders – 2.41%. End </p>
