Belorusneft plans to increase oil production in Belarus by 1.16% in 2021 up to 1.73m tonnes

Belorusneft State Production Association (Rechitsa, Gomel Oblast, an oil extraction monopolist) plans to increase oil extraction in Belarus by 1.16% yoy in 2021 up to 1.73 million tonnes, said Denis Zakruzhny, head of well technologies and maintenance at Belorusneft. </p> <p> </p> <p> Belorusneft’s development strategy provides for annual year-on-year growth of oil production. “This year our plan is 20 thousand tonnes more than last year’s result. We are trying to maintain this trend at both mature fields and the newly discovered fields,” Zakruzhny told the Belneftekhim Vestnik magazine. </p> <p> </p> <p> In his words, the discovery of new fields is important for increasing oil production. “That is why we have taken unprecedented measures to increase the volume of exploration work in our region. In accordance with the company's geological exploration program for 2020-2024, the scope of field seismic works will exceed one thousand square kilometres for the first time in the modern history of Belarus. The volume of prospecting wells will exceed 40 thousand meters,” he said. </p> <p> </p> <p> Zakruzhni also said that Belarus’ proven oil reserves amount to 44 million tons. “This value is variable, but has not changed over the past five years as we annually compensate the volume of extracted oil by adding new wells,” he said. </p> <p> </p> <p> Belorusneft increased oil output in January-February 2021 by 0.4% year on year to 276,000 tonnes. In February 2021, Belorusneft decreased oil extraction from new wells and branch holes by 1.5% year on year to 133,000 tonnes. </p> <p> </p> <p> Belarus increased oil production in 2020 by 1.2% on the year to 1.71 million tonnes.
