BelNPP Unit One’s acceptance certificate signed – Energy Ministry
<p> MINSK, Jun 10 - PrimePress. An acceptance commission led by Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Nazarov has signed a certificate, which states the first unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant has been accepted for commercial operation, the Ministry of Energy of Belarus said in a statement. </p> <p> </p> <p> The acceptance commission includes representatives of the Energy Ministry, the Emergencies Ministry, the State Standardization Committee of Belarus, the Architecture and Construction Ministry, the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Ministry, the Healthcare Ministry, the Internal Affairs Ministry, the Grodno Oblast administration, the national energy company Belenergo, and representatives of the Russian companies ASE, Atomstroyexport, and Atomtechenergo. </p> <p> </p> <p> The commission's decision relies on positive conclusions of oversight bodies and the provisional commission of the Belarusian nuclear power plant as well as the first unit commercial operation license granted by the Emergencies Ministry. </p> <p> </p> <p> At present the unit is operating at the nominal output capacity of the reactor unit. Since it was connected to the power grid, it has generated nearly 3 billion kWh of electricity. </p> <p> </p> <p> Belarus’ first nuclear power plant in Ostrovets (a town in the Grodno Oblast also referred to as Astravyets) will have two units with a combined capacity of up to 2,400 megawatts. The AES-2006 Russian standard design of (generation 3+) was chosen for its construction. Rosatom’s division Atomstroyexport acts as the general contractor for the NPP construction. The Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant RUE is the project customer and the future operator of the NPP. The ceremony of the official launch of the NPP took place in early November 2020. The first power unit of the NPP is expected to be put into commercial operation in 2021, the second power unit – in 2022. End </p> <p> </p>
