BelNPP Unit 1 once again switched off from grid for testing

The first unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant (BelNPP, Astravyets, Grodno Oblast) is once again disconnected from the grid - for testing and maintenance in accordance with the program of the pilot operation stage, said the press service of the Ministry of Energy of Belarus. </p> <p> </p> <p> The ministry explained that the stage of pilot operation of the BelNPP first unit provides for the serial development of reactor power (75-90-100% of nominal capacity). Among other things, it is necessary to conduct tests, including the mode with disconnection from the mains and scheduled shutdown of the unit, in order to test all systems and confirm the design indicators of their reliability and safety. </p> <p> </p> <p> Pilot operation phase takes a certain period in accordance with the regulations, as there are 285,000 units of various equipment and technical units operating at BelNPP Unit 1. After individual tests, technological breaks are required to inspect and evaluate the performance of the systems and adjust them if necessary. This work is carried out in stages, including the shutdown of the unit. </p> <p> </p> <p> According to the schedule of operations, BelNPP will come to the end of the first part of the pilot operation phase by the end of March, which will be followed by a comprehensive testing. By that time, all the works related to the safety expertise should be completed and the readiness of the operating organization to perform its function should be assessed. Gosatomnadzor will prepare an opinion report, which will be submitted to the board of the Ministry of Emergency Situations for a decision on issuing a licence. End </p>
