BelNPP receives fresh nuclear fuel from Russia for first scheduled reloading at Unit 1

The Belarusian nuclear power plant (BelNPP) has successfully completed the incoming inspection of fresh nuclear fuel which was delivered from Russia for the first scheduled reloading of fuel at Unit 1, the engineering division of Russia’s Rosatom State Corporation said in a statement. </p> <p> </p> <p> The fresh fuel was produced for BelNPP at the Machine-Building Plant in Elektrostal (MSZ, an enterprise of Rosatom’s Fuel Company TVEL, Moscow Region), while the starting load for both BelNPP power units was made at the Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrates Plant, the statement said. </p> <p> </p> <p> Rosatom notes that the design strategy for fuel use in the VVER-1200 reactors at BelNPP provides for a four-year fuel cycle with one reload every 12 months during the planned preventive maintenance. The starting load and the first fuel reload at each unit are part of the general contract for the construction of the power plant. Deliveries of fresh fuel under a direct contract between JSC TVEL and BelNPP will begin in 2022. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, in spring 2021, BelNPP successfully completed the incoming inspection of the start-up fuel load for Unit 2.
