Belavia to change business model amid EU restrictions - Snopkov

Belarus’ state-owned airline Belavia will change its business model, in particular, develop flights to the CIS, including Russia, against the background of the restrictive measures of the European Union (EU) after the incident with the Ryanair plane. First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Nikolay Snopkov stated that in a television interview on May 29. </p> <p> </p> <p> “I am sure that we will increase the number of flights in the countries, which let us into their airspace. We hope for our partners: destinations to all the CIS countries, Sochi, Krasnodar, Mineralnye Vody, Baikal, Altai - there are a lot of beautiful parts of Russia, which should be explored by Belarusians in terms of tourist destinations. I am sure that they (Belavia – editor’s note) will build a business model that will compensate the problems that exist today with the West,” Snopkov said. </p> <p> </p> <p> According to him, Belavia will change the business model, for example, using other planes and directions. “I’m sure Belavia will come out of this situation different and better," Snopkov said. </p> <p> </p> <p> As reported, on May 23, a Ryanair airline plane flying from Athens to Vilnius made an emergency landing at Minsk National Airport after receiving information about an explosive device on board (the bomb report was not confirmed). The manoeuvre was performed in the company of a Belarus Air Force MIG-29 fighter. Belarusian blogger and activist Roman Protasevich was on board the Ryanair plane and was detained. He is charged under three articles of the Criminal Code of Belarus and is on the international wanted list. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) will conduct an official investigation into the incident. A number of countries have closed their airspace for Belarusian air carriers and prohibited their airlines to fly over Belarus. End </p>
