Belaruskali ready to take back workers sacked for strikes

The management of Belaruskali (Soligorsk, Minsk Region) has decided to lift disciplinary sanctions from the company's employees and the previously dismissed employees can be hired back if they submit applications for employment. This was reported by the press service of Belaruskali. </p> <p> </p> <p> The company also expressed interest in long-term cooperation with the Norwegian company Yara. "As a result of regular dialogue, we declare our willingness to cooperate with Yara on a long-term basis in the field of industrial safety. Belaruskali is ready to host Yara experts to monitor industrial processes," reads the statement. </p> <p> </p> <p> Also, the Belaruskali administration jointly with the company’s trade union discussed issues of improving public control over industrial safety, for which in the near future the employer and the trade unions will make appropriate proposals. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, Yara voiced concern about the situation in Belarus after the presidential elections on August 9, 2020, and about the fate of the miners laid off for strikes and miners serving their sentences. Since 17 August 2020 when the strike was called by the Belaruskali strike committee for political reasons on, 55 employees have been dismissed and workers have received a total of over 330 days of administrative detention. </p> <p> </p> <p> Norway’s Yara is the world’s largest fertilizer producer. It traditionally works with Belarusian Potash Company (BPC) under five-year contracts. BPC, Belaruskali’s export trader, has been supplying Yara with over 1 million tons of potash fertilizers annually. The Norwegian government holds a 36.2% stake in Yara and institutional investors own 30.34%. Yara enterprises are located in 50 countries, the production volume exceeds 20 million tons of fertilizers a year. </p> <p> </p> <p> OAO Belaruskali is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of potash fertilizers, employing about 18,495 personnel. It operates the Starobinskoye potash salts deposit and comprises four mine groups, auxiliary shops and support units. </p> <p> </p> <p> Belaruskali controls 16% of the world’s potash fertilizer market, with Belarus Potash Company acting as Belaruskali’s key export trader.
