Belarus’ trade Ministry to develop anti-inflation program by September 1
<p> MINSK, May 12 - PrimePress. The Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade of Belarus (MART) will develop an anti-inflation program and submit it to the government by September 1, 2020 on order No.123r issued by the prime Minister of Belarus on May 11, 2020, which has been posted on the government’s website. </p> <p> </p> <p> An interdepartmental ad hoc group headed by Deputy Minister of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade Andrei Kartun has been appointed to prepare a draft resolution ‘On Approval of the Anti-Inflation Program’ of the government and the National Bank of Belarus. </p> <p> </p> <p> The group is to make proposals aimed at improving antitrust, pricing, monetary, fiscal, and communication policies, and ensuring national food security. </p> <p> </p> <p> As reported, inflation in Belarus was at 3.3% in January-April 2020 to compare with 4.7% in 2019. The official inflation target for 2019 and 2020 was set at 5%. </p> <p> </p> <p> In January 2020, Belarus approved a strategy to increase confidence in the national currency for the period to 2035, which provides for measures to switch to inflation targeting before 2021.
