Belarus to ship at least 2.3m tonnes of petroleum products via Russian ports in 2021

MINSK, Nov 8 - PrimePress. Belarus intends to ship at least 2.3m tonnes of petroleum products through Russian ports by the end of this year, which is 35% above the target, chief executive of Belneftekhim Concern Andrey Rybakov said on Monday, cited by BelTA news agency.

“We have already refocused our supplies to ports of the Russian Federation. We estimate we will actually achieve supplies of at least 2.3 million tonnes as of the year-end against the target of about 1.7 million tonnes,” the chief executive said.

"This is currently beneficial" for the Belarusian side, Rybakov said. Minsk at the same time continues monitoring of the Baltic States, he noted. "We will operate there as well if necessary. Certain activities are underway there as regards individual freight flows," the top manager added.

In February 2021, Belarus and Russia signed the intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in transportation and throughput of Belarusian petroleum products through Russian seaports.

As previously reported, in mid-December 2020, Belarus suspended the export of oil products through the port of Klaipeda (Lithuania) under new contracts. The decision was prompted by the political conflict with the West following the presidential election in Belarus. Russia has long offered Belarus to use its transport infrastructure for exports, but the Russian route is longer and not as profitable as the Lithuanian one. An intergovernmental agreement on transshipment of Belarusian oil products through Russian ports was signed on February 19, 2021. It provides for transshipment of Belarusian-made fuel oil, gasoline and oil via Russian seaports on the Baltic Sea in 2021-2023, including up to 3.5 million tons in 2021, 3.2 million tons in 2022 and 3.1 million tons in 2023. The export potential of Belarusian oil products via Klaipeda is 10-11 million tons annually. End
