Belarus Telecom Ministry plans to increase availability of high-speed internet in small settlements

The Ministry of Communications of Belarus intends to increase the availability of high-speed Internet by covering settlements with 50 households with corresponding infrastructure. </p> <p> </p> <p> Belarusian Communications and Informatization Minister Konstantin Shulgan made a statement to this effect at the opening of the III Eurasian Digital Forum on June 1. </p> <p> </p> <p> According to him, the number of wireless broadband Internet users exceeded 95 units per 100 residents. A network of fibre-optic communication lines (fibre optic) was held to all settlements with the number of households of 100 and more. "We are working to bring fibre-optic lines to settlements with 50 to 100 households, now they are covered by 60%. The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) recognized Belarus’ fibre-optic lines network as the best in Europe. Fourth generation cellular services cover the territory with almost 90% of the population, said Shulgan. </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> Digital transformation is a priority in domestic and foreign policy of Belarus, the minister said.
