Belarus’ stock market turnover down 21.9% in Jan-Jun 2020 to Br13.122bn

Belarus’ stock market turnover (transactions with shares and bonds, including bonds of the Development Bank of the Republic of Belarus) reduced by 21.9% year on year in Jan-Jun 2020 to Br13.122 billion ($5.135bn at the rate of the National Bank of Belarus), the Finance Ministry of Belarus said in an online report. </p> <p> </p> <p> The turnover of equity transactions in Jan-Jun 2020 totalled Br920.1 million ($360.1m), up 6-fold year on year. This includes transactions with shares of open joint-stock companies worth Br99.8m ($39.1m), up 320%; transactions with shares of closed joint-stock companies – Br24.2m ($9.5m), down 43.3%; other transactions with shares – Br796.1 million ($311.5m), up 820%. The ministry does not provide details regarding the deals and the companies involved. </p> <p> </p> <p> As of Jul 1, 2020, the number of issuers of shares stood at 4,118 (down 2.9% yr on yr). All in all, there were 4,252 issues of shares (down 2.8%) in circulation to the tune of Br37.893bn ($14.8bn), up 14.6%. </p> <p> </p> <p> The turnover of bond transactions stood at Br12.202bn ($4.775bn), down 26.7% yr on yr. This includes sales and purchases of bonds worth Br8.291bn ($3.245bn), down 40.3% yr on yr; REPO transactions – Br3.576bn ($1.399bn), up 39.9%; and other bond transactions – Br335m ($131.1m), up 71.9%. </p> <p> </p> <p> Sales and purchases accounted for the bulk of bond transactions (67.9%). The largest volume of sales and purchases in Jan-Jun 2020 was made with bank bonds – Br4.59bn ($1.796bn, down 55.4% yr on yr). Bond transactions by companies (including bonds of the Development Bank of the Republic of Belarus) – Br2.077bn ($0.813m, up 29.7%), government securities – Br1.4bn ($0.548bn, down 5.9%), bonds of the National Bank – Br84m ($32.9m, down 79.6%) and bonds of local loans – Br138.9m ($52m, up 49.4%). </p> <p> </p> <p> The total number of bond issuers as of Jul 1, 2020 reached 268 (down 2.9%). There were 956 bond issues (down 6.7%) worth Br31.599bn ($12.366bn, down 2%) in circulation as of Jul 1, 2020, including Br bonds worth $13.454bn ($5.265bn, down 2.1% yr on yr), USD bonds worth Br11.108bn ($4.347bn, down 12.3%), EUR bonds worth Br5.88bn ($2.301bn, up 19.9%), RUB bonds worth Br1.157bn ($0.453bn, up 25.4%). </p> <p> </p> <p> According to the Securities Department of the Ministry of Finance of Belarus, the total volume of transactions with shares and bonds in 2019 amounted to Br29.777bn ($11.653bn), down 0.4% yr on yr.
