Belarus should stick to same old privatization strategy - Lukashenko

Belarus should stick to the previously defined privatization strategy, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said at a meeting with the government on January 21. </p> <p> </p> <p> “We have decided on the concept of privatization, and it has been accepted by the people. Complete freedom for the development of private property, public-private partnership. Please, act, but do not touch what has been created by the people. This is an extreme case and a separate consideration,” Lukashenko said. </p> <p> </p> <p> Speaking about the amendments to the legislation on business associations, Lukashenko noted that they include provisions to improve the economic condition of enterprises through financial rehabilitation measures, attract additional capital and provide incentives to managers for effective development. </p> <p> </p> <p> In his words, the law should not be changed often. "And if we add something, we should make sure that everything is taken into account. The more so because the issues regulated by the draft law affect most of the organizations in the country," said Lukashenko. </p> <p> </p> <p> He also pointed out that some companies have already received support in one form or another. In his opinion, state-owned companies, which previously received financial aid from the state (tax preferences, soft loans, direct financial injections), they should report progress, rather than ask for another helping of preferences or financial support.
