Belarus, Russia should unite industrial, intellectual and scientific potentials – Golovchenko

MINSK, Jan 19 - PrimePress. Belarus and Russia should unite their industrial, intellectual and scientific potentials, Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko said at the meeting with Russian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Belarus Dmitry Mezentsev on January 19, 2021, the government’s press office reports.

“Today’s realities spur us to unite our potentials–industrial, intellectual, scientific, and cultural–while the world, in my opinion, tends to divide, heading for disintegration. The pandemic has actually accelerated these processes. We need to take steps toward consolidation of our capacities, build joint trade and industrial chains, joint businesses, and do away with regulatory biasness, promoting creative approaches instead. We should, so to speak, save each other’s money and intellectual wealth, design products and prototypes that, combined, would produce a synergetic effect,” said Golovchenko.

According to the prime minister, for the first time in many years, Belarus and Russia entered the new year without unresolved issues in the fuel and energy sector, having reached all agreements on the agenda.

He said Belarus expected to localize production of the Russian covid-19 vaccine in the near future. “I welcome close cooperation between our agencies. We will localize the production [of the Russian vaccine] step by step in Belarus. This will give us new competences in microbiology and pharmaceutics,” Golovchenko said.

Ambassador Mezentsev thanked for the collaboration of the Health Ministries of Belarus and Russia, Russian consumer safety watchdog Rospotrebnadzor, Sputnik V vaccine producers and the specialists who are now preparing for the joint production of the vaccine. “We expect the first industrial batch to be released on the Belarusian soil in February-March. Vladimir Putin said that Belarus would be the first country to receive the vaccine, and this has already been done. The mass vaccination began ahead of schedule. It was initially planned to do this in January, but it started on December 29. Contracts provide for vaccines supplies in January, February and March,” he said, “Cooperation in this area will continue. It is a good example for other sectors–economists, power engineers, transport workers–showing how we can cooperate when looking for common solutions,” said Mezentsev. End
