Belarus, Russia’s telecom operators to cut roaming rate 20-fold to 1.5 cents Nov 1, 2020
<p> MINSK, Oct 21 - PrimePress. Telecom operators of Belarus and Russia will switch to a new roaming tariff from November 1, 2020 in test mode. The interconnect rate will decrease to 1.5 US cents per minute from the current 30 cents. This will significantly reduce the cost of communication for customers in Belarus and Russia, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk said after the meeting of the high-level group of the Union State Council of Ministers held on October 21, 2020. </p> <p> </p> <p> “The trial period of the system operation will begin on November 1 and will last 2 months, after which it is planned to switch to permanent comfortable subscriber roaming tariffs,” Overchuk said. </p> <p> </p> <p> “This will significantly reduce the cost of communication for users of Russian SIM-cards in Belarus, and for holders of Belarusian SIM-cards in Russia,” he said. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, the abolition of roaming in the Union State is a point on a roadmap approved in June 2017 by the Supreme State Council of the Union State and signed in December 2019 by the Telecom Ministries, and as part of the joint action plan to detect and suppress fraud in the telecommunication networks of Russia and Belarus. The fee for incoming calls in Union State roaming was expected to be abolished before October 2020. End </p>
