Belarus, Russia, China in talks on pilot manufacture of electric cars

Belarus negotiates the pilot manufacture of electric cars with Russia and China, says Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov. </p> <p> </p> <p> “You know, we have designed a car of our own, basically, and not just one. We have several [electric] cars now: a truck, a passenger car, a minivan, and even a sports car is under development. All components and elements are available. We are now working on the pilot manufacture, so that we can start mass production. To this end, we are in talks with our partners, including Chinese and Russian, to set up production facilities,” Gusakov told CTV state TV channel. </p> <p> </p> <p> He said the COVID-19 pandemic impeded the start of the pilot manufacture of electric vehicles in 2020. Contacts are being resumed, and the parties are negotiating the matter again. “We hope that we will launch the manufacture of our cars in 2021,” said Gusakov. </p> <p> </p> <p> He said the Belarusian electric car has “some novelties, which other developers do not have”, such as inverters and condensers, chassis, etc. “There things, even, that I would hesitate to talk about, because it’s still our secret,” he said. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, President Alexander Lukashenko said in July 2020 that Belarus would have a “good electric car” of its own manufacture in five years.
