Belarus reports Br1.562bn budget deficit in Jan-Jun 2021

Belarus’ Finance Ministry posted a republican budget deficit of Br1.562 billion (Br) (U.S. $622.19 million at the official rate of the National Bank of Belarus) in Jan-Jun 2021, or 1.98% of the country’s GDP in January-June 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> The republican budget indicates spending and revenues of the central administration, whereas the consolidated budget also includes local budgets. </p> <p> </p> <p> Republican budget revenues totalled Br12.635 billion ($5.033 billion), or 53.2% of the annual target for 2021; expenditures – Br14.197bn ($5.655bn), or 47.7% of the annual target. </p> <p> </p> <p> Revenues of the state administration budget (republican budget, local budgets and Welfare Ministry’s Social Security Fund (SSF), and other extra-budgetary funds – editor’s note) totalled Br28.206 billion in Jan-Jun 2021 ($11.235 billion, 51.6% of the annual plan); expenditures – Br29.121 billion ($11.6 billion, 48.2%), deficit – Br915.1m ($364.5 million), or 1.6% of GDP in Jan-Jun 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> Revenues from the value-added tax amounted to Br6.954 billion ($2.77 billion, 50.2% of the year target), from the profit tax – Br1.65 billion ($657.24 million, 48.8%), excises – Br1.672 billion ($666 million, 51.5%), from foreign economic activities – Br2.571 billion ($1.024 billion, 63.7% of the annual target). </p> <p> </p> <p> Revenues of the Labour and Welfare Ministry’s Social Security Fund in Jan-Jun 2021 stood at Br9.486 billion ($3.779 billion, 49.6%), expenditures – Br9.334bn ($3.718bn, 49.7%), surplus – Br152 million ($60.55m). </p> <p> </p> <p> Tax arrears stood at Br178.6 million ($71.14m) as of July 1, 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, the republican budget deficit in 2020 totalled Br1.859 billion ($734.43m), 1.3% of GDP.
