Belarus reports $1.922bn foreign trade surplus in 2020

Belarus’ surplus in foreign trade in commodities and services amounted to $1.922 billion in 2020 compared with a $403 million deficit in 2019, says the National Statistics Committee of Belarus (Belstat). </p> <p> </p> <p> The foreign trade turnover of goods and services decreased in Jan-Dec 2020 by 14.4% year on year to $72.242 billion. </p> <p> </p> <p> Exports of commodities and services decreased in Jan-Dec 2020 by 11.7% year on year to $37.082 billion; imports were down 17% to $35.16 billion. </p> <p> </p> <p> The deficit of foreign trade in commodities amounted to $1.969 billion in Jan-Dec 2020 to compare with a $4.193 billion deficit in Jan-Dec 2019. </p> <p> </p> <p> Exports of commodities (in FOB prices) were down 12.6% y/y in Jan-Dec 2020 to $28.257 billion, imports decreased 17.2% to $30.226 billion. </p> <p> </p> <p> The surplus of foreign trade in services amounted to $3.89 billion in Jan-Dec 2020 against a $3.79 billion surplus in Jan-Dec 2019. </p> <p> </p> <p> Exports of services decreased in Jan-Dec 2020 by 8.5% year on year to $8.825 billion; imports were down 15.7% to $4.934 billion. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, Belarus’ foreign trade deficit stood at $243.4 million in 2019. The turnover of foreign trade in goods and services totalled $84.175 billion; exports – $41.966 billion; imports – $42.209 billion.
