Belarus reports $1.506bn foreign trade deficit in Jan-Sep 2021
<p> MINSK, Nov 2 - PrimePress. Belarus’ deficit in foreign trade in commodities amounted to $1.506 billion in Jan-Sep 2021 compared with a $2.394 billion deficit in Jan-Sep 2020, says the National Statistics Committee of Belarus (Belstat). </p> <p> </p> <p> Exports of commodities were up 36.1% year on year in Jan-Sep 2021 to $28.147 billion, imports – up 28.5% to $29.653 billion. </p> <p> </p> <p> Exports of commodities to the CIS member states increased in Jan-Sep 2021 by 29.2% year on year to $16.545 billion; to the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) – up 22.7% to $12.427 billion; to Russia – up 22.6% to $11.664 billion. </p> <p> </p> <p> Exports to countries outside the CIS increased by 47.5% on the year in Jan-Sep 2021 to $11.602 billion. Exports to the European Union (EU) grew twofold to $7.076 billion. </p> <p> </p> <p> Imports of commodities from the CIS in Jan-Sep 2021 were up 43.5% y/y to $18.319 billion; from the EEU member states – up 46.7% to $16.864 billion; from Russia – up 46.6% to $16.714 billion. </p> <p> </p> <p> Imports of commodities from countries outside the CIS decreased in Jan-Sep 2021 by 10% year on year to $11.334 billion; imports from the EU were up 3.2% to $4.865 billion. </p> <p> </p> <p> The deficit in foreign trade in commodities with the CIS in Jan-Sep 2021 amounted to $1.774 billion (+$46.9 million in Jan-Sep 2020). The deficit in trade with the EEU stood at $4.437 billion (minus $1.368m in Jan-Sep 2020), with Russia – (minus $5.051 billion (minus $1.885bn). </p> <p> </p> <p> The surplus in foreign trade in commodities with countries outside the CIS totalled $268m in Jan-Sep 2021 to compare with a $2.44bn deficit in Jan-Sep 2020. The surplus in trade with the EU in Jan-Sep 2021 stood at $2.212bn against a $1.104bn deficit in Jan-Sep 2020. </p> <p> </p> <p> In January-September 2021, the CIS countries accounted for 60.32% (in January-September 2020 - 58.46%) of Belarus’ foreign trade turnover; non-CIS countries accounted for 39.68% (41.54%); EEU countries – 50.68% (49.43%); Russia – 49.1% (47.82%); the EU - 20.66% (19.02%). </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, Belarus’ deficit in foreign trade in commodities in 2020 amounted to $3.578 billion.
