Belarus reports $1.288bn foreign trade deficit in Jan-Jul 2021
<p> MINSK, Sep 2 - PrimePress. Belarus’ deficit in foreign trade in commodities amounted to $1.288 billion in Jan-Jul 2021 compared with a $2.15 billion deficit in Jan-Jul 2020, says the National Statistics Committee of Belarus (Belstat). </p> <p> </p> <p> Exports of commodities were up 37.4% year on year in Jan-Jul 2021 to $20.981 billion, imports – up 27% to $22.269 billion. </p> <p> </p> <p> Exports of commodities to the CIS member states increased in Jan-Jul 2021 by 27.7% year on year to $12.204 billion; to the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) – up 21.4% to $9.268 billion; to Russia – up 21.4% to $8.705 billion. </p> <p> </p> <p> Exports to countries outside the CIS increased by 50.5% on the year in Jan-Jul 2021 to $8.777 billion. Exports to the European Union (EU) grew threefold to $5.337 billion. </p> <p> </p> <p> Imports of commodities from the CIS in Jan-Jul 2021 were up 41.2% y/y to $13.663 billion; from the EEU member states – up 45.9% to $12.575 billion; from Russia – up 44.4% to $12.46 billion. </p> <p> </p> <p> Imports of commodities from countries outside the CIS decreased in Jan-Jul 2021 by 9.5% year on year to $8.606 billion; imports from the EU were down 0.14% to $3.687 billion. </p> <p> </p> <p> The deficit in foreign trade in commodities with the CIS in Jan-Jul 2021 amounted to $1.458 billion (minus $121.1 million in Jan-Jul 2020). The deficit in trade with the EEU stood at $3.307 billion (minus $1.071m in Jan-Jul 2020), with Russia – (minus $3.755 billion (minus $1.458bn). </p> <p> </p> <p> The surplus in foreign trade in commodities with countries outside the CIS totalled $170.7m in Jan-Jul 2021 to compare with a $2.029bn deficit in Jan-Jul 2020. The surplus in trade with the EU in Jan-Jul 2021 stood at $1.651bn against a $1.039bn deficit in Jan-Jul 2020. </p> <p> </p> <p> In January-July 2021, the CIS countries accounted for 59.81% (in January-July 2020 - 58.41%) of Belarus’ foreign trade turnover; non-CIS countries accounted for 40.19% (41.59%); EEU countries - 50.5% (49.62%); Russia - 48.94% (48%); the EU - 20.86% (19.27%). </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, Belarus’ deficit in foreign trade in commodities in 2020 amounted to $3.578 billion.
