Belarus reports $1.151bn foreign trade deficit in Jan-Jun 2021
<p> MINSK, Aug 3 - PrimePress. Belarus’ deficit in foreign trade in commodities amounted to $1.151 billion in Jan-Jun 2021 compared with a $1.838 billion deficit in Jan-Jun 2020, says the National Statistics Committee of Belarus (Belstat). </p> <p> </p> <p> Exports of commodities were up 37.6% year on year in Jan-Jun 2021 to $17.692 billion, imports – up 28.2% to $18.843 billion. </p> <p> </p> <p> Exports of commodities to the CIS member states increased in Jan-Jun 2021 by 28.2% year on year to $10.285 billion; to the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) – up 22% to $7.864 billion; to Russia – up 21.9% to $7.39 billion. </p> <p> </p> <p> Exports to countries outside the CIS increased by 53.2% on the year in Jan-Jun 2021 to $7.407 billion. Exports to the European Union (EU) grew threefold to $4.5 billion. </p> <p> </p> <p> Imports of commodities from the CIS in Jan-Jun 2021 were up 42.5% y/y to $11.48 billion; from the EEU member states – up 45.9% to $10.534 billion; from Russia – up 45.9% to $10.438 billion. </p> <p> </p> <p> Imports of commodities from countries outside the CIS decreased in Jan-Jun 2020 by 10.9% year on year to $7.363 billion; imports from the EU were up 0.6% to $3.13 billion. </p> <p> </p> <p> The deficit in foreign trade in commodities with the CIS in Jan-Jun 2021 amounted to $1.194 billion (minus $35.6 million in Jan-Jun 2020). The deficit in trade with the EEU stood at $2.67 billion (minus $775.4m in Jan-Jun 2020), with Russia – (minus $3.049 billion (minus $1.09bn). </p> <p> </p> <p> The surplus in foreign trade in commodities with countries outside the CIS totalled $43.9m in Jan-Jun 2021 to compare with a $1.802bn deficit in Jan-Jun 2020. The surplus in trade with the EU in Jan-Jun 2021 stood at $1.369bn against a $911.1m deficit in Jan-Jun 2020. </p> <p> </p> <p> In January-June 2021, the CIS countries accounted for 59.57% (in January-June 2020 - 58.35%) of Belarus’ foreign trade turnover; non-CIS countries accounted for 40.43% (41.65%); EEU countries - 50.36% (49.59%); Russia - 48.8% (47.98%); the EU - 20.88% (19.27%). </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, Belarus’ deficit in foreign trade in commodities in 2020 amounted to $3.578 billion.
