Belarus reports 18.2% yoy decline in new car sales in 2020 to 53.537 thousand units - BAA
<p> MINSK, Jan 14 - PrimePress. Belarusian automobile dealerships, members of the Belarusian Automobile Association (BAA, 23 legal entities representing 38 automobile brands), reduced sales of new cars by 18.2% year on year in 2020 down to 53.537 thousand units, BAA representatives told a press conference on January 14. </p> <p> </p> <p> “It has been a tough year, the result has been a drop in sales to 53,500 from 65,000 a year earlier… The capacity of our market is at least twice as high. As before, cars assembled in Russia account for 70.27% of sales, while sales of Geely vehicles made in Belarus have increased from 10% to 17%,” commented BAA CEO Alexander Sidorevich. </p> <p> </p> <p> BAA board member Dmitriy Yarota added that the share of new commercial vehicles increased in 2020: at the end of the year it was 11% compared to 6% in 2019. </p> <p> </p> <p> The leader in sales among all brands was Lada (10,342,000), followed by Geely (9,200) and Renault (6,900). Official dealerships sold 16 new electric cars in 2020, of which nine were Zotie E200 and four were Geely. End </p>
