Belarus reports $120.3m foreign trade deficit in Jan-Feb 2021

Belarus’ deficit in foreign trade in commodities and services amounted to $120.3 million in Jan-Feb 2021 compared with a $506.9 million deficit in Jan-Feb 20209, says the National Statistics Committee of Belarus (Belstat). </p> <p> </p> <p> Exports of commodities were up 20.7% year on year in Jan-Feb 2021 to $5.139 billion, imports – up 10.4% to $5.259 billion. </p> <p> </p> <p> Exports of commodities to the CIS member states increased in Jan-Feb 2021 by 7% year on year to $2.936 billion; to the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) – up 4% to $2.257 billion; to Russia – up 4.4% to $2.137 billion. </p> <p> </p> <p> Exports to countries outside the CIS increased by 45.4% on the year in Jan-Feb 2021 to $2.203 billion. Exports to the European Union (EU) grew by 73.6% to $1.304 billion. </p> <p> </p> <p> Imports of commodities from the CIS in Jan-Feb 2021 were up 23.2% y/y to $3.223 billion; from the EEU member states – up 24.4% to $2.935 billion; from Russia – up 24.6% to $2.908 billion. </p> <p> </p> <p> Imports of commodities from countries outside the CIS decreased in Jan-Feb 2020 by 5.2% year on year to $2.036 billion; imports from the EU were down 9.8% to $827,200b million. </p> <p> </p> <p> The deficit in foreign trade in commodities with the CIS in 2020 amounted to $287.3 million (+$126.1 million in Jan-Feb 2021). The deficit in trade with the EEU stood at $677.9 million (minus $187.4bn in Jan-Feb 2020), with Russia – (minus $770.9 million ($286.4m). </p> <p> </p> <p> The surplus in foreign trade in commodities with countries outside the CIS totalled $167m in Jan-Feb 2021 to compare with a $633m deficit in Jan-Feb 2020. The surplus in trade with the EU in Jan-Feb 2021stood at $476.3m against a $166.4m deficit in Jan-Feb 2020. </p> <p> </p> <p> In January-February 2021, CIS countries accounted for 59.24% (in January-February 2020 - 59.4%) of Belarus' foreign trade turnover; non-CIS countries accounted for 40.76% (40.6%); EEU countries - 49.93% (50.19%); RF - 48.51% (48.53%); the EU - 20.49% (18.49%). </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, Belarus’ deficit in foreign trade in commodities in 2020 amounted to $3.578 billion. Exports of commodities to the CIS member states increased in Jan-Feb 2021 by 7% year on year to $2.936 billion; to the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) – up 4% to $2.257 billion; to Russia – up 4.4% to $2.137 billion.
Exports to countries outside the CIS increased by 45.4% on the year in Jan-Feb 2021 to $2.203 billion. Exports to the European Union (EU) grew by 73.6% to $1.304 billion.
Imports of commodities from the CIS in Jan-Feb 2021 were up 23.2% y/y to $3.223 billion; from the EEU member states – up 24.4% to $2.935 billion; from Russia – up 24.6% to $2.908 billion.
Imports of commodities from countries outside the CIS decreased in Jan-Feb 2020 by 5.2% year on year to $2.036 billion; imports from the EU were down 9.8% to $827,200b million.
