Belarus receives $500m in 1st tranche of Russia’s loan

The first tranche of the Russian state loan in the equivalent of $500 million has been transferred to the account of the Finance Ministry of Belarus under the agreement between the government of the Republic of Belarus and the government of the Russian Federation signed on December 21, 2020, the ministry’s press office reports. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, the presidents of Russia and Belarus agreed on a $1.5 million loan for Belarus during their meeting on September 14, 2020 in Sochi. The first tranche of the loan in the amount equivalent to $500 million was to be transferred to Belarus before the end of 2020, and the second tranche, also in an amount equivalent to $500 million, in 2021. The loan is provided in Russian rubles at the exchange rate of the Central Bank of Russia on the date of transfer of each tranche for the repayment and servicing of Belarus’ debt to Russia and the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development, and for budget support for Belarus. The absence of Belarusian companies’ debts for natural gas supplied by Gazprom is one of the conditions. End </p>
