Belarus ready to redirect potash fertilizer transit to Russia’s Murmansk port if EU intensifies sanctions - Lukashenko
<p> MINSK, Aug 9 – PrimePress. Belarus is ready to redirect the transit of potash fertilizers to the port of Murmansk (Russia) if the European Union (EU) closes its ports to such transit. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko stated that during the “Big Talk with the President” on August 9, the president’s press service informed. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, Lithuania finds it possible to ban export transit of Belarusian potash fertilizers through the port of Klaipeda in the context of the expansion of the EU sectoral sanctions against Belarus. A proposal to this effect has been sent to the EU’s relevant bodies and may be considered at the next meeting of the European Council. </p> <p> </p> <p> “Now they want to shoot themselves in the head: closing their ports so we could not ship chemical, potash fertilizers. Look, we will supply these volumes, we will transship them in Murmansk, it’s not a problem. And we will take the shortest way by the Northern Sea Route to China - our main market - and to India. Please, shoot yourself in your head. The way out: before we, having crossed the red line, drive each other into a tight corner, we must get out of this situation now. But the ball is in the other side,” Lukashenko said. </p> <p> </p> <p> In the meantime, the Murmansk region of Russia is ready to offer preferential conditions for transit of Belarusian fertilizers, in particular, through Murmansk Bulk Terminal.
