Belarus provides Br2bn to support economy amid coronavirus pandemic – Golovchenko

Belarus has allocated Br2 billion ($772.051 million at the rate of the National Bank of Belarus) to support the economy amid the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko said, presenting the government action program for the period to 2025 in the House of Representatives of the National Assembly on December 2, 2020. The government’s press posted a video of his speech on Facebook. </p> <p> </p> <p> The prime minister did not specify how much was spent particularly to mitigate the pandemic impacts. </p> <p> </p> <p> He said that decree No.143 on economic support of April 24, 2020 will be extended by six months. </p> <p> </p> <p> According to Golovchenko, state support under decree No.143 totaled around Br65 million ($25.091 million), mainly in tax relief. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, decree No.143 approved the list of economic activities exposed to pandemic impacts the most. The listed businesses are granted tax credit deferrals and installment plans, a reduction in the period of tax refunds and the total amount of VAT. Individual entrepreneurs may switch to other tax regimes and recalculate the single tax due to temporary failure to carry out their activities. The government allowed postponing lease payments and introduced a moratorium on lease rate increases. Local governments may lower property taxes. Legal entities and individual entrepreneurs are advised to postpone levying rental charges. The ministers of health, antimonopoly regulation and trade and the chairman of the State Committee for Standardization are granted the right to suspend stores and public catering facilities for up to 90 days for violations.
