Belarus private households’ electricity consumption for household needs grows 2.5 times in January-August to 162m kWh

Belarus’ residential electricity consumption for heating and hot water increased by 2.5 times year on year in January-August 2021 up to 162 million kWh, said Belarusian Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, the Energy Ministry of Belarus approved a 2021-2025 program aimed at increasing electric energy consumption by households after the commissioning of the Belarusian nuclear power plant (Astravyets, Grodno Oblast). According to the program, electricity consumption for heating, hot water supply and cooking will increase by the end of 2025 to a total of 900 million kWh to compare with 12.88 million kWh in 2019 and 53.8 million kWh in January-October 2020 mainly by means of increased energy consumption by households accommodated in new electrified housing and in the existing housing facilities. </p> <p> </p> <p> In 2020, residential electricity consumption for heating and hot water in Belarus increased 7-fold year on year - from 12.9 million kWh to 89.4 million kWh.
