Belarus plans to increase food export by 3.8% to $6bn in 2021

Belarus plans to increase food export by 3.8% yoy in 2021 to $6 billion, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of Belarus Alexei Bogdanov said in an interview for the STV television channel. </p> <p> </p> <p> “We are planning to export $6 billion worth of food stuffs this year, we are planning to export $7 billion by 2025, and we are going to do it through increased production. For example, last year we produced 7.8 million tons of milk, and by 2025 we plan to produce 9.2 million tons, we produce 1.26 million tons of meat of all kinds - we plan to produce 1.5 million tons by 2025,” said Bogdanov. </p> <p> </p> <p> In his words, Belarus hopes to increase export volumes in 2021 mainly by growing supplies to Asian markets, including China in the first place. As previously reported, Belarusian agricultural exports to China in 2020 increased by 1.9 times year on year to $225 million, in January-February 2021 - 2.2 times yoy to $35 million. </p> <p> </p> <p> According to Belstat, Belarusian exports of agricultural products and foodstuffs in 2020 increased by 4.3% year on year to $5.777 billion, while imports decreased by 8.6% to $4.254 billion. The surplus of foreign trade in agricultural products and foodstuffs was $1.522 billion against $881 million in 2019. Supplies of agricultural products and foodstuffs to Russia, which remains the main market for Belarusian agricultural products, decreased by 2.6% to $4.3 billion in 2020. End </p> <p> </p>
