Belarus needs to invest Br200 billion in economy in 2022-2025 - premier

Belarus will have to invest Br200 billion ($77.68 billion at the rate of National Bank of Belarus) into the economy in 2022-2025, Belarusian premier Roman Golovchenko said in his speech at the VI All-Belarus People's Congress on February 12. </p> <p> </p> <p> “We need to invest more than Br200 billion over five years to reach the planned parameters of growth. We have to earn this money together with you and partially procure loans,” Golovchenko said. </p> <p> </p> <p> He said that a comprehensive document, the National Infrastructure Plan of Belarus, is being prepared for the new investment cycle. </p> <p> </p> <p> Golovchenko said that the infrastructure plan includes about 1 thousand projects worth Br28 billion ($10.87 billion, $1 = 2.5748 Belarusian rubles). Including 175 transport infrastructure projects worth Br7 billion ($2.72 billion) and 233 projects in energy, housing, utilities and waste management worth Br13 billion ($5.1 billion) are expected to be implemented. </p> <p> </p> <p> However, Golovchenko admitted that "there is still work to be done to find sources of financing for the entire plan". </p> <p> </p> <p> He also said that the government is going to create and develop five new high-tech industries: electric transport, bioindustry, pharmaceutics, robotics and production of composite materials. </p> <p> </p> <p> According to Golovchenko, it is planned to attract more than Br80 billion ($31.1 billion) and implement more than 500 investment projects in the industry over the next five years.
