Belarus may ban sale of beer, low-alcohol beverages in 1-litre PET bottles or larger containers from 2023
<p> MINSK, Nov 19 – PrimePress. Starting from January 1, 2023 Belarus may impose a ban on sale of beer and low-alcohol beverages with ethyl alcohol content below 7% in polymer consumer packaging (PET bottles) of 1 litre and more. This is stipulated by a draft resolution of the Belarusian government, prepared by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection and published on the Legal Forum for public discussion. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, since 22 July 2014, the sale of such products in 2-litre PET bottles or larger containers in all commercial and catering facilities, as well as during delivery trade, distance trade, trade through distributors, public catering outside catering facilities has been prohibited in Belarus. After the resolution is adopted, this measure will be extended to the sale of beer and low-alcoholic beverages in packages of 1 litre or more. </p> <p> </p> <p> The restriction on bottling beer and soft drinks bottling into PET containers with a volume of up to and including 1 litre is expected to reduce plastic waste generation and have a positive impact on atmospheric emissions.
