Belarus’ low-income families to get 40% reimbursement of cost for switching homes to electric heating

Belarus’ local authorities will have the right to increase the amount of reimbursement of the expenses of low-income and underprivileged families for purchasing and installing electric equipment for heating, hot water supply and cooking up to 40% from 20% of the cost of these works. </p> <p> </p> <p> The compensation amount shall be limited to 80 basic units (2,160 Belorussian rubles, $848.2 dollars at the rate of the National Bank of Belarus; one basic unit - Br27, $10.6 dollars, $1 - Br2.5466), in accordance with President Lukashenko’s ordinance № 375 of October 22, 2020. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, in accordance with Presidential Ordinance № 127 of April 14, 2020, the state shall reimburse citizens for up to 20% of the cost of converting single-family houses to electricity for heating, hot water supply and cooking. The amount of compensation should not exceed 40 basic units (Br1,080, or $424.1). End </p> <p> </p> <p> Earlier Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko repeatedly spoke about the importance of increasing electricity consumption in the country in connection with the forthcoming launch of the nuclear power plant in Astravyets (Grodno Oblast). This is all the more important because the export of electricity generated by the Belarusian nuclear power plant will be virtually blocked. End </p>
