Belarus’ liquor output up 4% in Jan-Sep 2020 to 9.535m dal

Belarus increased output of vodka and hard liquor by 4% year on year in January-September 2020 to 9.535 million decaliters (dal), Belarus’ National Statistics Committee (Belstat) said in a report. </p> <p> </p> <p> In June 2020, output of vodka and hard liquor totaled 1.223 million dal (up 9.8% year on year, up 9.3% month on month). </p> <p> </p> <p> Output of fermented alcoholic beverages reduced by 10.5% year on year in Jan-Sep 2020 to 3.793 million dal. In September alone, output stood at 464,000 dal (up 7.7% against Sep 2019, down 4.7% against Aug 2020). </p> <p> </p> <p> Output of grape wine reduced by 9.8% to 2.261 million dal. In September alone, output stood at 226,000 dal (down 5.4% year on year, down 11% month on month). </p> <p> </p> <p> Output of sparkling wines in Jan-Sep 2020 increased by 13.7% to 1.403 million dal, including 176,000 dal in Sep (up 7.3% yoy, up 41% from Aug 2020). </p> <p> </p> <p> Brandy output was up 1.4% in Jan-Sep 2020 to 288,000 dal, including 26,000 dal in Sep 2020 (down 7.1% yoy, down 21.2% from Aug 2020). </p> <p> </p> <p> Inventories of vodka and hard liquor amounted to 795,000 dal as of Oct 1, 2020 (75% of average monthly output), brandy – 32,000 dal (100%), sparkling wines – 384,000 dal (115%), grape wines – 292,000 dal (116.2%), fermented alcoholic beverages – 293,000 dal (69.9%). </p> <p> </p> <p> Inventories of fermented alcoholic beverages decreased by 0.3% yoy as of Oct 1, 2020, vodka and hard liquor – down 5.9%, brandy – down 5.9%, grape wines – down 2%, sparkling wines – up 19.6%. </p> <p> </p> <p> Sales of alcoholic beverages and beer totaled Br3.1 billion ($1.214 billion at the rate of the National Bank of Belarus) in Jan-Sep 2020 (8.6% of the retail turnover). In terms of absolute alcohol, sales of alcoholic beverages and beer increased in Jan-Sep 2020 by 2.8% year on year. </p> <p> </p> <p> In terms of absolute alcohol, the share of vodka in total sales of alcoholic beverages decreased in Jan-Sep 2020 by 0.8 percentage points year on year to 45.7%; the share of liquors and spirits made up 6.2% (down 0.1 pp), grape wines – 7.4% (up 0.1 pp). </p> <p> </p> <p> The share of fruit wines decreased by 0.5 percentage point to 10.8%, brandy – up 0.6 pp to 4.1%, sparkling wines – up 0.2 pp to 2.4%, low-alcohol beverages – up 0.2 pp to 1.3%. </p> <p> </p> <p> In physical terms, sales of vodka increased by 1.1% to 6.534 million dal, liquors and spirits – up 1.2% to 1.184 million dal, grape wines – up 4.3% to 3.003 million dal, fruit wines – down 3.4% to 3.435 million dal, brandy – up 20.6% to 579,500 dal, sparkling wines – up 8.9% to 1.228 million dal, low-alcohol beverages – up 21.5% to 1.247 million dal.
