Belarus’ liquor output up 3% in 2020 to 13.108m dal

Belarus increased output of vodka and hard liquor by 3% year on year in January-December 2020 to 13.108 million decaliters (dal), Belarus’ National Statistics Committee (Belstat) said in a report. </p> <p> </p> <p> In Dec 2020 alone, output of vodka and hard liquor totalled 1.057 million dal (down 10.2% year on year, down 15.5% month on month). </p> <p> </p> <p> Output of fermented alcoholic beverages reduced by 9.3% year on year in Jan-Dec 2020 to 5.081 million dal. In December alone, output stood at 387,000 dal (down 3.7% year on year, down 9.8% month on month). </p> <p> </p> <p> Grape wine output reduced by 11.5% to 2.991 million dal. In December alone, output stood at 275,000 dal (down 1.1% year on year, up 31.6% month on month). </p> <p> </p> <p> Output of sparkling wines in Jan-Dec 2020 increased by 9.7% to 1.918 million dal, including 131,000 dal in Dec (down 20.1% year on year, down 26.4% month on month). </p> <p> </p> <p> Brandy output grew 8.8% year on year in Jan-Dec 2020 to 435,000 dal, including 55,000 dal in Dec 2020 (up 5.8% yoy, up 34.1% from Nov 2020). </p> <p> </p> <p> Inventories of vodka and hard liquor amounted to 542,000 dal as of Jan 1, 2020 (49.6% of average monthly output), brandy – 36,000 dal (99.3%), sparkling wines – 233,000 dal (145.8%), grape wines – 258,000 dal (103.5%), fermented alcoholic beverages – 258,000 dal (61.3%). </p> <p> </p> <p> Inventories of fermented alcoholic beverages decreased by 9.8% yoy as of Jan 1, 2021, vodka and hard liquor – down 10.8%, brandy – up 7.5%, grape wines – up 23.4%, sparkling wines – up 2.7%. </p> <p> </p> <p> Sales of alcoholic beverages and beer totalled Br4.2 billion ($1.6 billion at the rate of the National Bank of Belarus) in Jan-Dec 2020 (8.6% of the retail turnover). In terms of absolute alcohol, sales of alcoholic beverages and beer increased in Jan-Dec 2020 by 2.1% year on year. </p> <p> </p> <p> In terms of absolute alcohol, the share of vodka in total sales of alcoholic beverages decreased in Jan-Dec 2020 by 0.9 percentage points year on year to 45.8%; the share of liquors and spirits made up 7.3% (unchanged), grape wines – 7.3% (unchanged). </p> <p> </p> <p> The share of fruit wines decreased by 0.6 percentage point to 10.7%, brandy – up 0.6 pp to 4.3%, sparkling wines – up 0.1 pp to 2.6%, low-alcohol beverages – up 0.2 pp to 1.3%. </p> <p> </p> <p> In physical terms, sales of vodka increased by 0.1% to 8.771 million dal, liquors and spirits – up 2% to 1.653 million dal, grape wines – up 1.8% to 3.979 million dal, fruit wines – down 2.8% to 4.56 million dal, brandy – up 18.6% to 827,600 dal, sparkling wines – up 7.4% to 1.836 million dal, low-alcohol beverages – up 21.6% to 1.677 million dal.
