Belarus’ insurance cos collect Br1,358bn in premiums in Jan-Nov 2020, up 8.8%/yr

Belarusian insurance companies increased collection of direct and co-insurance premiums by 8,8% on the year in January-November 2020 to 1.358 billion Belarusian rubles (Br) ($526.46 million at the NBB rate), the Belarusian Finance Ministry said in a release. </p> <p> </p> <p> The total value of mandatory insurance policies sold in Jan-Nov 2020 stands at Br497.2 million ($192.75m), up 4.9% on the year. </p> <p> </p> <p> The total value of voluntary insurance policies sold in Jan-Nov 2020 stands at Br860.5 million ($333.6 million), up 11.3% on the year. </p> <p> </p> <p> Voluntary insurance accounts for 63.4% of total revenues in Jan-Nov 2020 (62% in Jan-Nov 2019). </p> <p> </p> <p> State-owned insurance companies Belgosstrakh and Beleximgarant together collected Br704.5 million ($273.1 million) in Jan-Nov 2020, which makes up 51.9% of the total amount of insurance premiums </p> <p> </p> <p> Belarusian insurers paid out Br725.5 million ($281.26 million) in compensations in Jan-Nov 2020, up 13.5% year on year. </p> <p> </p> <p> The compensation to premium ratio reached 53.4% in Jan-Nov 2020, compared with 51.3% in Jan-Nov 2019. Belgosstrakh and Beleximgarant account for 53% of the total value of compensation payments. </p> <p> </p> <p> As of Dec 1, 2020, there were 16 insurers in Belarus.
